About Saunas Near and how we build it
Search a map for "sauna" in most US cities and you get a mix of real public saunas, sauna dealers, hot tub showrooms, tanning salons, massage businesses, gyms and vacation rentals with a sauna in the garden. This site lists only the places a member of the public can book or walk into for a sauna, bathhouse or cold plunge session, and says what kind of place each one is.
Where the listings come from
We collected Google Maps results for sauna, bathhouse, Korean spa, infrared sauna and cold plunge searches around the 250 largest US cities and the largest city of every other state; "sauna" around 200 more cities; a grid of search points across the 40 largest metro areas, so suburbs are not cut off; and searches for banya, Russian and Turkish baths, hammam, jjimjilbang, onsen, contrast therapy, wood-fired, public and floating saunas in those metros. That returned 51,881 distinct map listings, checked November 2, 2026. We then visited each candidate venue's own homepage once to read what it says about itself, and cross-checked chain studios against the chains' own location lists.
City pages show the places inside the city first, then everything within 30 miles (45 miles for the largest cities), nearest first, because that is where people actually drive for a sauna.
What we keep, and what we leave out
A rules-based classifier reads each listing's Google category, its name and its website text. It keeps a venue only when there is clear evidence of public sauna, bath or plunge sessions, and assigns one type:
- Traditional sauna: 175
- Infrared sauna studio: 883
- Korean spa: 42
- Banya & hammam: 57
- Bathhouse & contrast therapy: 456
- Hot springs bathhouse: 11
- Floating sauna: 6
It leaves out sauna and hot tub sellers, builders and repair firms; gyms and fitness chains (even ones with a sauna for members); tanning, nail, beauty, medical and massage businesses without a sauna offering; hotels and vacation rentals; mobile sauna rentals with no fixed venue; members-only clubs; and adult venues. When the evidence is unclear, the classifier leaves the place out rather than guess. We hand-checked a random sample of its decisions; the accuracy is reported in our build notes and we keep correcting it.
What each listing shows
Name, type, address, phone, website, the hours on the Google listing, and the Google rating with its count, labeled with the date we checked. Features (cold plunge, steam room, day pass, women-only areas and so on) appear only when the venue's name, its Google categories or its own website say so, and each one says which. We never show prices, never copy reviews, and never invent details. We do not take payment for placement; order is by rating weighted by the number of ratings.
Corrections
Places close, change hours and change hands. If a listing is wrong, or a venue is missing, email contact@saunasnear.com and we will fix it.
Ads
The site is paid for by display ads. Ads are never placed above the first listing and never change which venues are listed or in what order.
